Obituary

Michael J. Clarke, 71, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022. Born in Paterson, NJ, on June 18, 1951, he was a son of the late Michael J. Clarke, Jr. and Frances Ubinas Clarke. Although born in NJ, he was raised in the Bronx.

A proud veteran of the armed services, Michael served in the US Army. On December 27, 1971, Michael married Gloria Jean Puzzio and together they raised their three children in Jackson, NJ. He worked as a operations supervisor for the Port Authority of NY/NJ at Newark International Airport retiring in 2010. An avid golfer, Michael enjoyed the courses of the Grand Strand for well over twenty years. He purchased a second home for vacationing and golfing and in 2012 they decided to make Longs their permanent residence. Enjoying professional football, Michael was a Kansas City Chief enthusiast. He also had a passion for classic rock and jazz music and most importantly, he had a love for his family. Known to his grandchildren as “Poppa” he treasured every moment he shared with them.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Gloria are his children, Garry Michael Clarke (wife, Tammy), Keith Owen Clarke; daughter Elena Clarke; grandchildren, Emma, Riley, Andrew, and Anna Clarke. He is also survived by his brother, Jeffrey Clarke; sister, Lynn Burkhard; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 31, 2022 at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens.
