Obituary

Thomas J. Finnegan Jr.
Thomas was born in Paterson, NJ on August 23, 1943 the son of Thomas Sr., and Margaret.

He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School, and after he served his country proudly in the United States Navy he became a police officer in Paterson, NJ in 1967. Thomas transferred to the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) in 1970 where he attained the rank of Detective Sergeant. He retired in 1996 after 26 years of service.

He enjoyed breakfast at the diner with family, corn beef at Kelly’s Tavern, watching the Yankees, listening to “oldies” music and relaxing with a cold beer.

He was predeceased by his parents Thomas Sr. and Margaret.  He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Elizabeth, his son James, his daughter Debra Probst and her husband Edward, his daughter Marianne Regan and her husband Brian, and grandchildren Ryan, Thomas, Mary and Kate. Thomas was a loving Pop Pop to his grandchildren and spent his time in retirement being “Pop Pop’s Daycare and Driving Service”.

Friends are invited to the Kurzawa Funeral home 338 Main Street, South Amboy, NJ 08879 on Tuesday June 1, 2021 from 4 pm to 7 pm, Wednesday morning a 10 am funeral mass will be offered at Sacred heart church, south Amboy. Internment will follow Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin section of Sayreville.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306.
