Earle
J. Walker of New City, NY, passed away peacefully,
surrounded by family, on July 5th, 2020. He was 76 Years
old.
Earle was
a great New Yorker, and grew up a block away from his
wife, Barbara. Earle and Barbara first met in elementary
school in Harlem, and they were married in 1965. Earle
graduated from George Washington High School and went on
to receive his BBA from Baruch College, and his MBA from
the Lubin School of Business at Pace University.
Earle’s
entrepreneurial spirit soared when he opened Walker’s
Ice Cream Palace in Harlem, New York. This establishment
was frequented by the New York Knicks and many of the
neighborhood’s youth in need of a mentor or friend. He
simultaneously went on to pursue his corporate endeavors
at the Port Authority’s Office of Business and Job
Development in 1969.
He was
honored as a Black Achiever and won a mayoral award for
small business excellence and achievement. After
retiring from the Port Authority in 1998, he embraced
the role as the Executive Director for the Regional
Alliance for Small Contractors, a position he cherished
until his retirement in February of 2020. Earle loved
his family, gardening, golf, cooking, basketball, and
especially football. He was the ultimate family man and
adored being a grandfather, husband, father, and friend.
He is
survived by his beloved wife Barbara of 55 years, his
daughter Giana and her boyfriend Michael, his daughter
Kirsten, and his son-in-law Wayne, and his precious
grandchildren Kyra and Dylan who affectionately referred
to him as “Peepa.” Earle is predeceased by his mother
Susan. Earle’s laugh was infectious, and both his
barbecue ribs and sangria were delicious. He will be
missed for his incredible kindness, his cooking, and his
indomitable spirit.
In accordance with CDC guidelines, the family will
receive an intimate gathering of family and friends for
his service at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY.
This will take place on Friday, July 10th from
10am-12:00pm. His burial will immediately follow at
Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made on his behalf to St Jude’s
Children’s Hospital, Autism Speaks, and Tourette
Association of America.
