Paul W. Magda

Obituary

Paul W. Magda passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2020.

He was born in Gates, PA to the late Maria (nee: Olavsky) and Paul Magda and was a long-time Bayonne resident.

Mr. Magda was a Sergeant for the Port Authority Police of New York and New Jersey, serving from 1955 to 1992, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal by the Port Authority.

He proudly served the nation as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Magda was the Commander in the American-Polish Veterans’ Association for over 20 years.

He enjoyed playing softball and pitching for the Brotherhood and Port Authority Leagues, and was inducted into the first class of the Port Authority Softball Hall of Fame for his pitching accomplishments.

Mr. Magda is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Geraldine (nee: Pierce) Magda; his loving children, Paul A. Magda, Gary Magda (Elizabeth) and Melissa Reynolds (Timothy); his cherished grandchildren, Paul, John, Sean, Sasha, Allyson and Ashley Magda, Erica Ramirez, John Andrew and Christopher, Alexa and Katie Reynolds; and his adoring great grandchildren, Adrianna Ramirez, Gabriella Ramirez and Ayela Magda. He was predeceased by his beloved sisters, Margaret Matus and Mary Warshany.

The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Monday, March 16, 2020. A funeral Mass will be held at the Church of St. Henry at 10:45 a.m. followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Sunday, March 15, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
