Obituary

His friends at PATH were saddened to learn of the passing of Robert V. Elijah
on April 23, 2020.

Robert, a dedicated employee with over 19 years of service, worked in PATH Way & Structures and held the title of Power Rail Maintainer I.  A power rail mechanic with 19 years on the job, was admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 symptoms on April 3, roughly three weeks after he hugged a co-worker who later tested positive for the disease.  By April 5, he was transferred to the intensive care unit, where he remained on a ventilator until his death on April 23. He was 61.

He is survived by his wife Sheila, sons Nafiys and Tyquana, and daughter Tanisha. Robert is also survived by his sister Sharon Elijah, a Port Authority retiree. Services will be private per the family’s wishes.

Known to his friends at PATH as Rob, he will always be remembered for his kind heart, his sense of humor and irresistible loud laugh. His colleagues in Track say that he was always fun to work with and often said how blessed he was to work at PATH. And we’re told that, of all his accomplishments, Robert was most proud of his family, especially his 12 grandchildren.

Our thoughts and sympathy are with Robert’s family, friends, and colleagues.
