John P. Careccia
April 17, 2020
Obituary
On Friday, April 17, 2020, John Careccia, 74, of
Fords, passed away peacefully, due to complications from
the Corona Virus at the JFK Medical Center, Edison.
Born and raised in New York City, he had resided in
Fords for the last 40 years.
He received his Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude at Adelphi
University in NY.
He worked for the Port Authority of NY & NJ at Newark
Airport, as well as the World Trade Center in NY. He
retired in 2000, after over 30 years as an Operations
Supervisor in Human Resources.
In retirement, he liked to golf, watch Fox news and
travel on cruises to Bermuda and the Caribbean over the
years.
He was a communicant, Eucharistic Minister, taught CCD
classes and was on the Pastoral Council at St James
Roman Catholic Church in Woodbridge, where he will be
dearly missed.
He was currently serving as Chief of the Woodbridge Twp.
Ambulance and Rescue Squad. John actively sought
opportunities to help others be their best version of
themselves and loved watching others achieve their
goals. He was a leader, teacher and mentor who deeply
cared for the well being of his crew. It is the end of
his watch and now the squad has to take their strong
work ethic, knowledge, strengths and life experiences
and carry on.
John’s legacy and spirit live on through his loving
family. John leaves behind his two daughters; Toni
Lorenc and her husband Mark, of Hillsborough, and
Rosanne Careccia and her husband Josue Martinez, of
Jackson and his beloved son; John Careccia and his wife
Cassandra, of Stroudsburg, PA, his 10 grandchildren;
Daniel and his wife Stephanie Lorenc; Nicole Lorenc;
Christopher and his wife Calli Mahon; Josue and his wife
Lauren Martinez; Jonathan Martinez; Rachel Careccia and
her wife Jennifer Nodjak; Zachary Martinez and John
Matthew Jr., Joshua and June Careccia and 3 great
grandchildren; Luke Mahon and Lucas and Cruz Martinez.
He also leaves his loving sister and brother-in-law; Pat
and Pete Thompson of North Carolina, his former wife,
Rosanne Connolly of Jackson, along with many caring
nieces and nephews.
John will be fondly remembered as Dad, Johnny, “Chief”,
Uncle Johnny, Unk, Pop-Pop and GgPop. He will be
remembered for his contagious laugh, big heart and
greeting you with “hey guy”. He loved to spend time with
his family and always had a story to tell. His favorite
place to eat was the Reo Diner. He always chose to bring
a chocolate cream pie for his dessert contribution, to
any family gathering.
John would like you to know that his work on earth is
done. His heavenly Father has called him home. He
received an invitation to attend a reunion that he won’t
be returning from. He will get to spend time with family
and friends, he has not seen in a long time.
Due to the Covid-19 Crisis, a private funeral and
cremation services are under the direction of the
Flynn & Son Funeral Home,
23 Ford Ave. Fords, NJ 08863 (732) 826-0358.
In lieu of flowers, John would hope that you will
perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone in his
name. You may also make a contribution in his memory to
either; Children’s Specialized Hospital or C.H.O.P. (The
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.)
