In Memory of
William (Bill) Benson

Obituary
Sadly,
just after midnight, I lost my best friend, my love and
my partner, William.
What
brought us there was very sudden and unexpected, but he
went peacefully in the end. I was able to be with him as
he passed, and for that, I am extremely grateful to the
amazing health care professionals at St. Joseph’s
hospital for their compassion and dignity that they
allowed us during his final hours. I am also truly
grateful for the love and support that surrounds me and
our family.
I am sorry
for posting this here but I wasn’t sure how else to
reach his friends, especially those of his Seaford ‘88
classmates and Friendly’s crew who he still kept in
touch with here.
Billy, I hate that our time together as a family was so
short. But know how much the boys and I love and adore
you, and always will.
His friends at the Port Authority were saddened to learn
of the passing of William “Bill” E. Benson on Tuesday,
May 19.
We are deeply distressed by this loss. Bill joined the
Port Authority family on March 6, 1995 as a Toll
Collector. Through his hard work and dedication, he
achieved over 25 years of service and moved up in
responsibility and rank to hold his most recent title of
Operations Group Supervisor in the Aviation Department
at LaGuardia Airport.
Bill is survived by his wife Tracie and sons William
(known as Liam) and Colin. Bill’s passing wasn’t the
result of COVID-19.
Although immediate services will be private per the
family’s wishes, a celebration of life memorial service
will be held at a time when such gatherings are deemed
safe.
