Obituary
Richard (Red) Joseph Zwycewicz passed away
peacefully on May 3, 2019.
Rich was a native of Brooklyn, New York and a graduate
of Adelphi University. He spent his career with The Port
Authority of New York & New Jersey, retiring in 1996 as
Chief Maintenance Supervisor for the high tension power
system at John F Kennedy International Airport.
He enjoyed his years in Arizona as an avid golfer often
carding scores equal to the 100+ degree temperatures. He
was a fan of the Diamondbacks and Cardinals cheering on
his teams with expletives when they weren’t playing
well. Rich looked forward to his Wednesday Night Poker
games with a group of gentlemen playing cards with
enthusiastic banter. In his spare time, he loved to read
books on his Kindle and tackle Sudoku puzzles. Rich
traveled frequently to New York and Boston for family
events, especially cherishing time with his
grandchildren. He was a strong advocate for education
and ensuring that children be taught to read books early
and often.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and
Stella (Rejzer), brother Leonard “Lenny” and son Kevin.
Those left to cherish his memories include his sister
Janet, beloved children Diane, Richard (Annemarie),
Karen and Susan, devoted grandchildren Trevor, Grant,
Jared, Carson, Gavin, Emma and Austin, and former wife
and mother of his children Carole. Also surviving is his
best friend and love of his life Cecilia and her family
and many dear cousins.
The family is grateful to the staff of Hospice of the
Valley-Thunderbird for their kind, caring, compassionate
and professional services provided to Rich. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley,
1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
