Obituary
Michael never wavered in his faith that he would return
home to his Eternal Father. He will always be remembered
for how he lived his life with respect, dignity and
loving service to his family, friends, and church
community.
Michael Burke, 71, passed away peacefully after
an extended illness, on Saturday, January 19, 2019. He
was born and raised in Jersey City and attended Seton
Hall Prep, St. Francis College, St. Peter's University,
and NYU. Michael taught in Jersey City for 16 years, and
became the District's data base administrator. He later
worked at MISI, and retired from the Port Authority of
NY and NJ after many dedicated years of service. Mike
also volunteered at the NYC 9/11 Tribute Center.
With a strong devotion to his Catholic belief, Mike
dedicated himself to St. Clement Parish, where he served
as a choir member, cantor, and head of his beloved Holy
Name Society. While working in Jersey City, he attended
and lectored at weekday masses at Our Lady of
Czestochowa, where he was warmly embraced by the church
community.
Michael was pre-deceased by his parents, George and Rita
Burke, his brother, George, his brother-in-law James
Lepis, and his niece, Anne Lepis. He is survived by his
loving and devoted wife, Barbara (Lepis), son, George,
and daughter, Marita. He is also survived by his
sister-in-law, Dolores Burke, his brother Jerry and
wife, Debbie, his nieces and nephews, and their
families: Heidi (Godchild), Brian, Kerry, Shannon
(Godchild), Ryane, and Kelsey. He is also survived by
his Godchildren, Cory and John Anthony, his Sansone
cousins, and his Lepis family: Barbara, Jerry and wife,
Kathi, Joseph and wife, Sarah, and Mary Jean, and aunt,
Angela Viverito, and his nieces and nephews, and their
families: Cabrini, Dana, Sheilah, Brendan, and Gerald.
Visitations will be held at the St. Clement Church in
Matawan on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019 from 3:00pm to
8:00pm and on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019 from 9am to
10am.
A funeral mass will take place at the St. Clement Church
on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019 at 10am.
Burial will follow in Marlboro Cemetery on Wednesday,
January 23rd, 2019
