Obituary
Andrew Tessitore, 76 Architect, husband, father,
and grandfather Devout husband, father and grandfather
Andrew Tessitore died in his home on Sunday, Oct. 21,
2018, following a long-fought battle with leukemia.
The son of two Italian immigrants, Anthony and
Josephine, Andrew grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. He graduated
from New Utrecht High School and the New York Institute
of Technology with a degree in architectural technology.
Fueled by a passion for drafting and structural design,
Andrew worked tirelessly to become an architect.
He joined the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey
in the early 1960's and worked there until his
retirement in 2008. Andrew survived two separate
terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center that, as for
many New Yorkers, had a profound and lasting impact on
his life.
As an architect, Andrew was instrumental in the design
and planning of our city's major airports, including
extensive work at Newark Liberty International airport.
With his wife Rosalie, Andrew moved to New Springville
in 1973, where he began his true life's work, raising
and providing for his family. Andrew's greatest love was
to spend time with his children and grandchildren
including, most notably, watching and coaching them in
sports. Andrew spent several years coaching at
Mid-Island Little League, and some of his happiest
moments were watching his sons play sports and later in
life watching his grand-daughters participating in
softball, basketball and soccer.
Andrew was a fanatic Mets fan who would rarely miss a
game and would often schedule his day to make sure he
was able to watch his favorite team lose. He was also a
passionate dog lover. His loyal companion and best
friend was Shakespeare, a black and white Shih Tzu, who
was often seen by his side walking the streets of New
Springville.
Andrew is survived by his loving wife, Rosalie; two
sons, Anthony and Michael and their wives, Kimberly and
Tracy; five granddaughters, Emily, Angelina, Kelsey,
Maggie and Anna; brother, Albino; sister, Elisa, and
numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today,
Tuesday, Oct. 23, and Wednesday, Oct. 24, at
Casey Funeral Home.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Our
Lady of Pity Church. Entombment is at Moravian Cemetery.
