William C. Schmitt

Obituary

William C. Schmitt, 68, of Sparta, died at his home Aug. 25, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved son of the late William F. and Katherine R. Schmitt. Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a resident of Lake Mohawk, Sparta, for many years. He was a graduate of Xaverian High School and Brooklyn College and was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus No. 497. Bill served in the U.S Army, 7th Calvary, on the DMZ in Korea. He worked for the Port Authority of N.Y. and N.J. for 33 years, where he was an international runway manager.

Bill was cherished by many friends and neighbors. He is survived by his loving family, Bob, Mary, Dan, Eileen, John, and Donna Luby, Jeanmarie and Mike Cranston and Judy and Darryl Kreitman.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 297 Sparta Ave, Sparta.
