						Obituary
						
						On the 
						evening of August 7, 2017, Walter "Walt" Thomas Toews
						passed away peacefully at Hackensack Hospital in 
						Hackensack, NJ surrounded by his loving wife and family 
						after a long battle with Cancer. 
						
						Walter was 
						73 years old. Born on March 6, 1944 at Englewood 
						Hospital in Englewood, NJ to Paul Alfred Toews and Alice 
						Joan Stapleton, Walt is survived by a brother, Thomas 
						Toews married to Susan, his wife of 53 years, Anne 
						Elizabeth Toews, five children, four grandchildren, and 
						two grandchildren on the way. His children include: 
						Jenny Lee married to Todd Kenneth Hoven, Debra Pauline 
						married to Gregory Andrew Martin Jr., Derek Paul married 
						to Christine Marie, Alison Mary married to Dylan Buckley 
						and Paul Joseph. Grandchildren include: Gregory A. 
						Martin III, Emma Elizabeth Martin, Wesley Joseph Toews 
						and Michael Thomas Buckley. Two additional grandchildren 
						are expected to arrive later this year. 
						
						No 
						stranger to the fast lane, Walt's passion for cars and 
						racing was evident in the business he owned with 
						partners, Louie and Anne - LAW (Louie, Anne and Walter) 
						Automotive located in Fairview, NJ which opened in 1965. 
						He was well-known for building racing engines and he was 
						an avid NHRA drag car racer. Recently, it was announced 
						that he will be inducted into the East Coast Drag Times 
						Hall of Fame where his love for the sport will live on. 
						In addition to living for his passion in a race car, 
						Walt was employed by the Port Authority of New York and 
						New Jersey for 34 years. He was dedicated to work and 
						had a perfect attendance during his tenure at the Port 
						Authority. He was also an educated man with 12 years of 
						education including trade school, and he was active in 
						the Army National Guard from 1959-1965. 
						
						Walt was 
						also the President of Lindy's Lake Association. One of 
						Walt's favorite annual traditions was road tripping 
						across the U.S. with his family where they would enjoy 
						camping, hiking and biking.
						Memorial 
						visitation will be held at Barrett Funeral Home 148 Dean 
						Drive, Tenafly on Saturday August 12, 2017 from 3:00pm - 
						6:00pm with memorial service at 3:30pm. 
						
						The family 
						has requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be 
						made to American Cancer Society in Walt's name.
