Francis X. Schmittler

Obituary

Francis X. Schmittler, fondly known as "Frank", 89, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, New Jersey.

Frank was born on October 25, 1927 in Jersey City, New Jersey. As a young adult, Frank moved to Bayonne, New Jersey, and later in life, settled in Hazlet, New Jersey. Frank was a Veteran of the United States Navy, where he proudly served on the U.S.S. Iowa during the occupation of Japan. Before retirement, he worked for New York-New Jersey Port Authority as the Maintenance Unit Manager, and while living in Monmouth County, Frank was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign War in Belford.

He was predeceased by his parents, Dominic and Mary (Wolleon) Schmittler, his devoted wife, Ellen (Ross) Schmittler, his beloved daughter, Kathy Schmittler, and his dear siblings, Joseph Schmittler, Doris M. Feehan, and Rita Schmittler, along with his very special dog, Buddy. Frank is survived by his loving daughter, Ellen Sperry of Hazlet, New Jersey, his dear brother, James Schmittler of Bayonne, New Jersey, and his cherished granddaughter, Ryan Sperry. He is also survived by his adoring nephews, James, Thomas, and Brian, and his treasured great nephew, Cole. Frank will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Thursday morning, May 4, 2017 from 8:00 to 8:45 AM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday morning, May 4, 2017 at 9:30 AM at The Church of St. Catherine Laboure, 110 Bray Avenue, North Middletown, New Jersey 07748.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations in loving memory of Frank to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, would be greatly appreciated.
