Obituary
Frank Schink, 95, of Tinton Falls, New Jersey,
passed away at his home at Seabrook Village on September
21, 2017 after a long illness.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on
Saturday, October 28, 2017, at the Atrium, Town Square,
at Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls. Cremation services
have been entrusted to the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune,
where condolences can be made online. The ashes will be
interred with his first wife, Barbara, at the Cranford
United Methodist Church, in their Memorial Garden.
Frank was born in Brooklyn, NY, on May 14, 1922 to
Elizabeth and Frank Schink, Sr. Frank was a WWII US Army
veteran and earned the European Battle Ribbon with
Battle Star after serving on the front in Germany. He
was transferred to an Army hospital in North Carolina
where he met Barbara McCally Schink, a US Army
occupational therapist, to whom he was married for 62
years until Barbara’s passing in April of 2008. Frank
was predeceased by all three of his brothers, Henry,
Charles and Calvin. He is survived by his current wife
Barbara Stiefel Schink, whom he married in 2009 at the
age of 87. Also surviving him are his two sons Stephen
F. Schink (Dianne Ruch Schink), and Thomas R. Schink
(Dr. Nancy DiTomaso), his two grandchildren Jessica
Schink and Alisa Schink, and his two step-grandchildren
Joseph O. Morin, Jr. and Desiree Morin. Frank was a
dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, and he
delighted in taking care of his family.
Frank graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School at
the age of 16 and then earned his BS and MS degrees in
Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of
Brooklyn, where he was also a member of Tau Beta Pi and
Eta Kappa Nu. Frank was a registered professional
engineer in both New York and New Jersey. Frank’s
professional career included development and direction
of facility and system design and maintenance
engineering for locations within the U.S. and abroad
(notably Australia). He worked at Anaconda Company, at
M.W. Kellogg Corporation, and then retired after 28
years at the Port Authority of NY/NJ in 1989 as Chief
Electrical Engineer.
Frank was very active with IEEE (the Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineers), especially with
the Power & Energy Society (PES) and with ELECTRO. He
served in both professional and volunteer positions for
over 50 years and was awarded many honors, including the
2008 Robert P. Noberini Distinguished Contribution to
Power Engineering Professionalism Award, the 2009
William Terry Distinguished Service Award for Leadership
and Dedication to IEEE and PES, and the 2010 Meritorious
Service Award from PES. Frank became a Life Fellow of
IEEE in 1988. He is also listed in Who’s Who in Science
and Engineering and Who’s Who in America.
