Obituary
Hendryk Suydam Weeks (Hank) was born September 3,
1917, in Elizabeth NJ, the youngest of 6 children of Mr
& Mrs Edward A. Weeks.
Hank graduated from Pingry and Princeton University
(class of 1939) and went on to have a career of 50 years
in the field of international trade and transportation
management. He completed executive assignments in Chile,
Peru, the United Kingdom, Puerto Rico and New York for
steamship companies, The Port Authority of New York and
New Jersey, and the Tampa (Florida) Port Authority.
After retirement he moved to Hendersonville, North
Carolina in 1989 where he became an active volunteer and
leader for a number of local organizations including the
Laurel Park Civic Association, the Belfry Community
Players, Habitat for Humanity, The Blue Ridge Radio
Players and Civitan. His ability to speak Spanish lead
to him being called by a number of organizations to act
as an interpreter. In 2008 he moved to Upper Montclair,
New Jersey where he lived until his death on January 12,
2016.
He was an active member of St Luke's and St James
Episcopal churches in Montclair, New Jersey as well as
St James and St John in the Wilderness Episcopal
churches in the Hendersonville, NC area.
He was married to the mother of their three sons,
Nanette Comyns Weeks for 37 years until her death in
1980. His second wife, Eleanor Sergison Weeks passed
away in 2001 in Hendersonville, NC. His second son
Hendryk Suydam Weeks pre deceased him and died in 2012.
He is survived by his son Paul Weeks and his husband
David Picard (Tucson Az), his son Craig Weeks, and wife
Lorraine (Seattle, WA) and their son Christopher
(Montclair, NJ) a daughter in law Nancy Weeks and
granddaughter Courtney (Dunedin, Fl) and grandson
Hendryk Suydam Weeks III, (Brooksville Fl) as well as
stepdaughters, step grandchildren and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Memorial services are planned for Montclair NJ and Flat
Rock NC. Memorial donations may be made to The Outreach
