Obituary
Joseph R. Sutherland, 89, formerly of the Twp. of
Washington, NJ, entered God's loving care on Thursday,
November 10, 2016, at JFK Haven Hospice in Edison, NJ.
He was born in the Bronx, NY to Caroline Sutherland (nee
Wolf). Beloved husband of Eileen Sutherland (nee
McGinley) for 66 years, they moved to the Township of
Washington in 1954 where they made their home until
2013.
He was a founding member of Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C.
Church, Knights of Columbus and the Washington Township
Ambulance Corps. Joe also served as President of the
Golden Seniors of the Twp. of Washington and was an
active volunteer at Pascack Valley Hospital. Joe was a
Port Authority of NY and NJ Police Officer for 20 years
during which time he also obtained a Bachelor of Arts
degree from William Paterson College. He then served as
Director of Administrative Services for BMW NA in
Woodcliff Lakes until his well deserved retirement in
1989. Joe also served in the United stated Navy during
world war II.
Devoted father of Maureen Sutherland and her husband
Joseph Cheben, of San Antonio, Texas, Barry Sutherland
and his wife Fran of Edison, NJ and Jill Noda and her
husband Ken of Wheaton. Illinois. Dear brother of
Gregory Sutherland. Loving grandfather of Mark Cheben,
Sean Cheben and his wife Brittany Wright, Amy Cheben and
her husband Tyler Smith, Brian and Marissa Sutherland,
Josh Noda and his wife Andrea, Andrew Noda and his wife
Cady and Connor Noda.
The family will receive their relatives and friends at
Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ
on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 2:00pm-6:00pm. The
Funeral Mass celebrating Joe's life and faith will be
held at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, 668
Ridgewood Road, Twp. of Washington, NJ on Monday,
November 14, 2016 at 10:00am. Interment will follow at
Cemetery of the Ascension, Airmont, NY.

to JFK Haven Hospice, 65 James Street, Edison, NJ 08820,
which provided him loving care during his final days.
