John R. Moran

Obituary

John R. Moran, of Franklin Lakes, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 15, 2016.

He was 76. Born in Kingston, PA, he graduated from Kingston High School in 1957, served in the U.S. Army for three years before attending Kings College in Pennsylvania and Pace University in New York. John resided in Somerville, NJ and Branchburg, NJ for many years and maintained a summer home in Harvey’s Lake, PA., where he enjoyed visits from family, friends and especially his grandsons. John was proud to say most of his career was spent in the World Trade Center working for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as Assistant Director of Audit before retiring in 1995. John was a volunteer exempt fireman at Engine Company No. 1 in Somerville, NJ. He was also a member of the Somerville Elks and an avid golfer.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Mary “Mitzi,” dear son John E. Moran, his wife Lu Ann, loving daughter Ellen K. Hargraves, her husband Gregory J., and much loved grandsons: Nicholas, Ryan, Michael, Kevin and Thomas. John is predeceased by his brother James Moran.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm & 7:00pm -9:00pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:45 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.

Contributions in John’s memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
