Obituary
Anthony J. "Red" Galioto, of West Orange, passed away at
home on Monday, September 12, 2016. He was 88 years old.
Services will be conducted from the
La Monica Memorial Home,
145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, on Thursday,
Sept. 15, at 9 am, followed by a Mass of Christian
burial at 10am, in St. Raphael R.C. Church, Livingston.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Bloomfield. The
visitation will take place on Wednesday from 4-8 pm.
Anthony graduated from Newark College of Engineering (NJIT)
in 1951 with a BS in Civil Engineering. He was a 1952
graduate of Air University-Installation Engineering
Officer Course, a 1957 graduate of Yale
University-Bureau of Highway Traffic, and a graduate of
Massachusetts Institute of Technology-Advanced Highway
Engineering.He was a registered professional engineer
and member of the Institute of Traffic Engineering.
He was associated with consulting engineering firms
throughout New York and New Jersey. He supervised a
professional and technical staff in the planning,
design, and installation of traffic control systems,
procedures, and devices at Port Authority facilities.
Anthony worked for many years with the Port Authority of
NY and NJ and was awarded the Authorities Unit Citation
Medal for his work on the Lincoln Tunnel Exclusive Bus
Lane Project and the Upper Deck replacement project at
the George Washington Bridge.
Upon retirement, he worked part time in maintenance
engineering with Daughters of Israel Nursing Home in
West Orange.
Anthony was an Army veteran of WWII where he served as a
drill sergeant and served in the US Air Force as a staff
engineer during the Korean War.
He was a member of the American Legion, Elks, Retired
Senior Volunteer Program of Essex County, and the Jewish
Historical Society of Metro West. He was also a member
of the Bloomfield Mandolin Orchestra, a life member of
the Pinelands Cultural Society, and the Bluegrass & Old
Time Music Association of NJ.
He was predeceased by his parents Rosaria (nee Sorce)
and Antonio Galioto, and siblings Samuel, James, Peter,
Julia, Rosalie Stanislawczyk, Joseph, Lucy El Koury,
Michael, and Elizabeth Longo.
He is survived by his wife of many years, Antoinette
(nee Bianchi), a sister Josephine Galioto, and many
nieces and nephews.
