Obituary

John Trygve Andresen Jr. - Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many, John Trygve Andresen Jr. died peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2016.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., at age 13 John moved with his family to Staten Island, N.Y. After graduating from Tottenville High School in 1944, he joined the US Merchant Marines. He served for six years and served in the Pacific during World War II. He also served for four years in the US Navy.
After his discharge from the Navy in 1954 he joined the Port Authority of New York and had a 29-year career. John graduated from Wagner College in 1963.

John had a spirit of adventure and joy for living. His favorite things to do with family and friends were skiing, sailing, traveling and sharing his message to celebrate Thanksgiving every day.
John was an active member of the Reformed Church of Huguenot Park until moving to Florida. He sang in the choir for over 40 years and served for many years on the Consistory and the building and grounds committee. He was also a member of the Masons and served as the grand master.
After retiring from the PA, he worked full time in his NY Flag and Pole business. He loved working with his son, Jeff, and later on with Isabel. Together they installed, painted and maintained the flagpoles in New York City.

John and Elsie, his wife of 52 years, lived in Huguenot until they retired to Punta Gorda, Fla., in 1992. Elsie predeceased John in 2004. John moved to the Phoenix area in 2014.
He is survived by his daughters: Susan, Debbie, Dawn, and their spouses, and his son, Jeffrey, and Jeff's wife, Isabel; 10 grandchildren and one great- grandchild.

A memorial service will be held in the Reformed Church of Huguenot Park later this year.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Reformed Church of Huguenot, 5475 Amboy Road, S.I., N.Y. 10312.
