Obituary
John Trygve Andresen Jr. - Loving husband,
father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to
many, John Trygve Andresen Jr. died peacefully on
Sunday, April 24, 2016.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., at age 13 John moved with his
family to Staten Island, N.Y. After graduating from
Tottenville High School in 1944, he joined the US
Merchant Marines. He served for six years and served in
the Pacific during World War II. He also served for four
years in the US Navy.
After his discharge from the Navy in 1954 he joined the
Port Authority of New York and had a 29-year career.
John graduated from Wagner College in 1963.
John had a spirit of adventure and joy for living. His
favorite things to do with family and friends were
skiing, sailing, traveling and sharing his message to
celebrate Thanksgiving every day.
John was an active member of the Reformed Church of
Huguenot Park until moving to Florida. He sang in the
choir for over 40 years and served for many years on the
Consistory and the building and grounds committee. He
was also a member of the Masons and served as the grand
master.
After retiring from the PA, he worked full time in his
NY Flag and Pole business. He loved working with his
son, Jeff, and later on with Isabel. Together they
installed, painted and maintained the flagpoles in New
York City.
John and Elsie, his wife of 52 years, lived in Huguenot
until they retired to Punta Gorda, Fla., in 1992. Elsie
predeceased John in 2004. John moved to the Phoenix area
in 2014.
He is survived by his daughters: Susan, Debbie, Dawn,
and their spouses, and his son, Jeffrey, and Jeff's
wife, Isabel; 10 grandchildren and one great-
grandchild.
A memorial service will be held in the Reformed Church
of Huguenot Park later this year.
