Bernard Newman
NEWMAN
Bernard P., Jr., of Nanuet, NY passed away on May 2,
2014 at Hackensack University Medical Center. He was
born August 7, 1930 to Bernard P., Sr. and Mary A.
Newman (nee Brannigan).
Mr. Newman was educated in NYC public schools and
graduated from Pace University in 1958. He worked for
two oil companies before joining the Port Authority of
NY and NJ where he worked for 30+ years before retiring
in 1991 as a Property Representative. Mr. Newman served
in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1950-1952, holding the rank of
Sergeant in the reserves.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Eileen B. (nee Bowen)
and one son, Bernard III, M.D., his wife Catherine and
three grandchildren, Kevin B., Amy C. and Michael T.
Newman. He was predeceased by his brother James B. and
is survived by his sister, Maureen Teresky and many
nieces and nephews.
Mr. Newman was active in St. Anthony's parish as an
usher and lector and as a CYO basketball coach. He also
coached/managed and was treasurer for the Nanuet Little
League and Babe Ruth League and a treasurer for the
Rockland Model Train Club.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Anthony's
Church in Nanuet on May 9 at 10 AM with interment in the
St. Anthony Mausoleum to follow. Visiting will be held
Wednesday May 7 from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at Wyman-Fisher
Funeral Home Inc. 100 Franklin Ave., Pearl River, NY.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation
be made to Julia's Butterfly Foundation, 637 Wyckoff
Avenue, Suite 285, Wyckoff, NJ 07481 , in the name of
Bernard P. Newman Jr.
