Obituary
Stephen R. Napolitano Port Authority executive oversaw
operations on tunnels, bridges and terminals; commended
for his 'extraordinary dedication and dynamic
leadership', 57 Stephen R. Napolitano of Milltown, N.J.,
passed away on Nov. 22, 2014, at the Memorial Sloan
Kettering Hospital in New York City, N.Y.
He was 57
years old. The family will receive friends Friday from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bronson & Guthlein Funeral
Home, 152 N. Main St., Milltown. Funeral service is
Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, Milltown.

Born in Teaneck, N.J., Steve
had been a resident of Milltown since 1991. Steve was a
graduate of Bergen Catholic High School, then graduated
from New Jersey Institute of Technology, earning a
degree in engineering. He further continued his
education receiving a master's degree in engineering
management.
Steve was a dedicated employee of the Port
Authority of New York & New Jersey in a career that
spanned 34 years. He rose to the position of assistant
director of the operations, tunnels, bridges, and
terminals department until appointed to his most recent
position as general manager of the Port Authority Bus
Terminal and Lincoln Tunnel. Over his tenure with the
Port Authority, he oversaw operations on each of the
Tunnels, Bridges and Terminals Department's facilities
including the Staten Island bridges, the Holland Tunnel,
the Lincoln Tunnel, and the George Washington Bridge and
Bus Station.
He made significant contributions as a
member of several professional organizations including
the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike
Association, the American Public Transit Association,
the Northern Manhattan Economic Development Corp. and
the Port Authority Police Department Civilian Review
Board, and was commended by the commissioners of the
Port Authority for his extraordinary dedication, fierce
determination, and dynamic leadership in his service to
the Port Authority. He was a longtime member of St.
Paul's Church in Milltown, and was a member of the St.
Paul's Men's Group.
Steve was a board member of the Brookside Swim Club in Milltown, and also a former
volunteer as captain with the Fort Lee Fire Department,
and was a member of the Fort Lee Exempt Firemen's
Association.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen
(nee Irvine); three sons, Ryan, Jonathan, and Andrew,
all at home; his father and his wife, Joe and Diane of
Mahwah, N.J.; a brother and sister in law, Russell and
Beth Napolitano of Lower Gwynedd, Pa., and a niece and
nephew, Betsy and R.J. Memorial contributions to St.
Paul's Church, 62 South Main St., Milltown, NJ 08850
would be appreciated.
