                        STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. 
                        -- Diego Modugno, 82, of Bay Terrace, a retired Port 
                        Authority car and equipment supervisor, National Guard 
                        veteran and loving family man, died Tuesday in Richmond 
                        University Medical Center, West Brighton.  
                        
                        
                        
                        Born and raised in 
                        Brooklyn, Mr. Modugno moved to Bay Terrace with his 
                        family 46 years ago. He was a supervisor in the General 
                        Services Division of the Port Authority of New York and 
                        New Jersey, which repaired and maintained cars and 
                        equipment. He retired in 1989. 
                        
                        
                        Mr. Modugno served in the 
                        National Guard for 10 years, and attained the rank of 
                        master sergeant.
                        
                        
                        He loved tinkering with 
                        cars, woodworking, hunting and fishing.
                        
                        
                        "He was loved by everyone 
                        he interacted with," said his daughter, Francesmary 
                        Modugno. "He made everyone feel important. He was a 
                        positive, upbeat person."
                        
                        
                        Mr. Modugno was a 
                        parishioner of St. Charles R.C. Church, Oakwood.
                        
                        
                        Surviving, along with his 
                        daughter, are his wife of 52 years, Frances; his son, 
                        James A.; his brother, Vincent, and four grandchildren. 
                        
                        
                        The funeral will be 
                        Saturday from the Colonial Funeral Home, New Dorp, with 
                        a mass at 10:15 a.m. in St. Charles Church. Burial will 
                        follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
