Hermine May Thompson

February 15, 2013 - Hermine May Thompson was born in Jamaica, West Indies on February 10, 1932. She migrated to New York City in the United States in 1953.

Hermine attended practical nursing school and worked at the Metropolitan Hospital as a licensed practical nurse. In the early 1960s, she then started a completely new career with The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey where she worked for approximately 30 years. During that time she obtained a BS from the University of Adelphi and was promoted to supervisory level in the microfiche department of The Port Authority of New York.

After she retired in 1992, she dedicated much of her time to volunteer work. She worked for several years tutoring children in public schools through the Building Educated Leaders for Life (BELL) Foundation program. She was also a very active and dedicated leader in the Stephen Ministry at the Convent Avenue Baptist Church as well as an active member of the Church's Evangelism Ministry.

Hemline Thompson was a strong spiritual woman of God who practiced her faith and who truly loved and supported her relatives, friends, and church family. She had a great sense of humor, loved shopping, and was a woman of substance and style. She will be truly missed by all of her family and friends.
