SCHLEIF - Walter
(Wally) 0., age 94, of Oradell, formerly of Bayside,
NY, passed from this life, at home, on 1 June 2013.
Born in The Bronx, Wally
graduated from Manhattan High School of Aviation Trades
and was employed at Fleetwing Aircraft, Lewyt
Corporation, B&H Aircraft, and then Brewster
Aeronautical, where he met the love of his life, Vivian.
After
being honorably discharged from the Navy, he worked for
General Bronze, World Steel, and Fire Door Corporation.
In 1968, Wally became senior construction inspector for
Tower A of the World Trade Center until his retirement
in 1984. He was proud to have been a member of the WTC
construction team and after the topping out of both
towers, with tenant inspection.
He was a life-long
member of the American Legion and a member of the
Oradell Seniors.
Wally was predeceased by
his wife of 56 years, Vivian, and now is reunited with
her. Beloved father of Raymond A. Schleif and Rita
Molton of Staten Island, NY, and Barbara D. Pieroni and
Andrew Kay of Clifton, NJ. Devoted grandfather of Eric
and Kimberly, Kevin and Dominique, Gregory, Rachel,
Justin, Jacqueline, and Richard. Delighted great
grandfather of Ryan Tyler, who always brought joy to his
Poppy. He wanted his grandchildren to remember him as
happy, helpful, and always being there for them. During
his lifetime, Poppy was true to his word, always giving
his children and grandchildren his best. They were his
happiness and his treasure.
The family will receive
friends at
Riewerts Memorial Home,
Inc., 187 South Washington Avenue, Bergenfield, NJ on
Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral liturgy at St.
Joseph's RC Church, Oradell, NJ, on Thursday at 10 AM.
Entombment Holy Cross Mausoleum, North Arlington, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the
family requests donations be made in Wally's name for
the maintenance of the 9/11 Memorial.
