
						
						
						
RICHARD DUNN Jr. 
						
						 Richard "Richie" Dunn Jr. passed 
						away May 9, 2012, at his home in Las Vegas.  
						Richard was born July 7, 1918, in New York City.  
						When he was 17, he joined the Merchant Marines, where he 
						sailed around the world.  In 1941, he joined the 
						U.S. Army with his brother and neighborhood friends.  
						He served in the Pacific Theater, where he landed on the 
						islands of Guam, Saipan, and Tinian.  
						
						
						
						
After the war, he worked for the Port Authority of New 
						York City.  He then moved to San Bernardino, 
						Calif., where he was a traffic officer for the police 
						department.  Richard moved to Las Vegas in 1952, 
						where he joined the Las Vegas Police Department.  In 1963, he was one of only six Nevadans to graduate 
						from the 
						
FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.  He 
						was also an instructor at the Las Vegas Police Academy, 
						where he referred to the cadets as the "BOYS."   He 
						retired from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 
						1973 at the rank of captain.  In 1976, Richard was 
						nominated by Sen. Howard Cannon and appointed by 
						President Jimmy Carter as the United States Marshal for 
						the State of Nevada.  
						
						
						In his lifetime, he traveled the world but never lost 
						his Bronx accent.  Richard was loved and will be 
						missed by all his family and friends.  Richard was 
						preceded in death by his wife, Therese; and daughter, 
						Judy Ann.  He is survived by his sons, Richard 
						(Carol), Mike (Linda) and Gino (MaryAnn).  Memorial 
						services will be at 11:20 a.m. Monday, June 4, at 
						Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 
						Buchanan Blvd., in Boulder City.
