ROBERT N.
STEINER
STEINER, Robert N., 70, of Valrico, Fla., peacefully
passed away July 19, 2011, at LifePath Hospice in Sun
City, Fla., after a courage- ous battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, of 47 years; son, Tim
and daughter-in-law, Ruth, of Lancaster, Pa.; son, Paul
and daughter-in-law, Anne, of Alpharetta, Ga.; son,
Michael of Tampa; grandchildren, Shannon, Brittany,
Danielle and Tyler; and brother, Don and wife, Aggie, of
Atlanta, Ga. Born December 5, 1940, in Philadelphia. Bob grew up in
Long Island, N.Y.
He graduated from Chaminade High
School and the United States Merchant Marine Academy at
Kings Point in 1962. His maritime career began at
Sea-Land Services in Newark, N.J. In 1967 he joined the
Port Authority of NY/NJ, where he worked for 21 years
and became the deputy port director before becoming the
vice president of Atlantic Container Lines in 1988.
After stints as port director at the Delaware River Port
Authority and president of Newark Refrigerated Warehouse
Corp., Bob came to Tampa to become the deputy port
director in 1994 and then port director a year later. He retired from
Tampa Port Authority after 40 years in the maritime/
port industry. Bob leaves behind a loving family and
many treasured friends and colleagues and will be missed
by his golfing buddies at RHCC in Valrico.
A celebration
Mass of his life will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday,
July 28, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Valrico,
with a reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made to LifePath Hospice at
12973 N. Telecom Parkway, Suite 100, Temple Terrace, FL
33637.
