Engineer Michael Anton Powch, of Glen Spey, NY
passed away after two battles with pneumonia this fall,
left this world peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by
his family, in the early morning of Thanksgiving Day. He
was 89 years old.
Mr. Powch was born on October 23, 1922 to the late
forester, Anton Powch and his wife, the late Jawdokia,
in Lutscki, Galizia, Ukraine.
He graduated with a degree in Surveying from the
Realgymnasium and Staat Technische Fachscule in Kolomia
and Lemberg, Ukraine in 1944 before fleeing Ukraine
during Soviet occupation. As a refugee in Germany he
earned a degree in Forestry from the University of
Munich in 1948 and after a time in the U.S., returned to
study Civil Engineering at the Technische Hochschule in
Graz, Austria, where he met his wife, Juliana
Mittendrein. They married in 1963 and raised two
daughters, Irene and Oksana. Mr. Powch enjoyed a 20-year
career in Civil Engineering at the Port of Authority of
New York and New Jersey. He retired in 1988 and enjoyed
23 years of retirement with his wife in Glen Spey.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Juliana
Powch; his two daughters, Dr. Irene Powch and Oksana
Charla; son-in-law, Thomas Charla, and three
grandchildren: Katie, Mikie, and Micah. He is
predeceased by his sister, Marika.

Main St., Port Jervis, NY on Sunday, November 27, 2011
from 2 to 4 p.m. A Panachyda Service will be held at 3
p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 28, 2011
at St. Volodymyr's Ukrainan Catholic Church, 2104 Co.
Rte. 41, Glen Spey, NY, with a Liturgy Mass at 10 a.m.
with Rev. Yaroslav Kostyk officiating. Burial will be in
Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.
