Betty Hanan, 93

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Betty Hanan, 93, of Bay Terrace, a Manhattan native and keypunch operator, died Sunday in Carmel Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Dongan Hills.

Born Betty Blum in Manhattan, Mrs. Hanan moved to Huguenot as a young girl and attended Tottenville High School. She settled in Bay Terrace around 10 years ago.

She worked for approximately 15 years as a keypunch operator for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, retiring in 1979.
In her leisure time Mrs. Hanan enjoyed reading, gardening flowers and vegetables, and had a fondness for animals.  “She loved dogs,” said her son, Richard.

Mrs. Hanan was a member of the Prince’s Bay Reformed Church since 1930.   Her husband of 21 years, Richard, died in 1964.  In addition to her son, Richard, she is survived by one grandson.

Arrangements are being handled by the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood, where burial will follow.
