
						
						Peter J. Cuevas, Jr.

						STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Peter J. Cuevas Jr., 79, of 
						Iselin, N.J., 
						a former Staten Island resident and a 
						retired maintenance supervisor, died yesterday at home.
						
						
						
						
Born in Manhattan, Mr. Cuevas moved to Great Kills in 
						the 1970s and to Huguenot a short time later. He settled 
						in Iselin 23 years ago. 
						Mr. Cuevas worked for 33 years as a maintenance 
						supervisor the Port Authority of New York and New 
						Jersey, working out of Newark Airport, He retired in 
						1991. 
						Mr. Cuevas served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marines 
						during the Korean War, serving from 1950 to 1954. 
						
						
						He received his bachelor’s degree from St. Peter’s 
						College, Jersey City, N.J. 
						Mr. Cuevas was actively involved with the Boy Scouts on 
						Staten Island for the past 50 years. He served as 
						assistant Scout master for Troop 8 and was a member of 
						the Order of the Arrow, Aquehongian Lodge 112, where he 
						was a vigil member of the lodge. He recognized for his 
						service in Scouting receiving the Silver Beaver, the 
						highest adult Scouting award. He also received the 
						Bronze Pelican, the St. George Award, the Award of Merit 
						and the Wood Badge.
						
						
						He was a parishioner of St. Cecelia’s R.C. Church, 
						Iselin, N.J. 
						Mr. Cuevas volunteered with the Staten Island 
						Alzheimer’s Foundation and was an avid fan of the Mets 
						and Jets. 
						Mr. Cuevas enjoyed traveling having visited 49 states, 
						all except Arizona, according to family. 
						His son, Robert Cuevas, died in 1993. 
						
						
						Surviving are his wife of 23 years, the former Emily 
						Henry; one son, William; one daughter, Lisa Milazzo; 
						three stepsons, Edward, Thomas and James Harkins; one 
						stepdaughter, Kathleen Harkins; one brother, Raymond; 
						two sisters, Johanna Cuevas and Doris Ramos; 15 
						grandchildren, and his former wife, Maria Cuevas.
						
						
						The funeral will be Saturday from the 
						
						Meislohn-Silvie 
						Funeral Home, Port Richmond, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in 
						St. Cecelia Church. Arrangements include cremation.
