His friends at The Port Authority were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Michael B. Zapantis, P.E., Esq. on Wednesday, June 16, 2010.  Mr. Zapantis is survived by his wife, Victoria, and his three children Michael, Christopher and Melanie.

Mr. Zapantis began his career in the Engineering Department where he quickly rose to the position of Manager of the Construction Contracts Awards Unit.  In 1996, he moved to the Procurement Department as the Manager of its newly created Construction Contracts Awards Division.  In this role, Mr. Zapantis was responsible for the award of millions of dollars of construction contracts as well as the general oversight of the agency’s consultant programs.  In 2008, he was promoted to Assistant Director, and at the time of his death he held the position of Deputy Director, Procurement Department.

Friends will be received at A.S. Cole Son & Company Funeral Home, 22 North Main Street, Cranbury, NJ on Monday, June 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 22 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1200 Klockner Road, Hamilton, NJ.
