Thomas W. Furlong
AGE: 74 JACKSON
Thomas W. Furlong, 74, of Jackson, passed away
Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at Bartley Healthcare, Jackson.
Mr. Furlong was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and resided in
Myrtle Beach, S.C. for 12 years before settling in
Jackson eight years ago.
Mr. Furlong worked as a data
processing supervisor for the Port Authority of New York
& New Jersey in Journal Square, Jersey City for 38 years
before retiring in March 1990. In addition, he was a
member of the Port Authority Softball Hall of Fame.
Mr.
Furlong proudly served his country with the U.S. Army
during peacetime. Mr. Furlong was a member and Past
Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 6201,
Jackson. In addition, he was a founding member of the
Holbrook Little League, Jackson, a member of the Ancient
Order of Hibernians, Myrtle Beach, S.C., the organizer
of the Ed Carlton Baseball, Jackson, and a member of the
Jackson Jaycees. Mr. Furlong was a communicant of St.
Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Jackson.
Mr. Furlong was predeceased by his parents, William J.
and Alice M. Furlong; and his sisters, Alice and Anne.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Andrea Furlong;
his daughters and son-in-law, Allison Furlong of
Jackson, Marcy Furlong of Jackson, and Jennifer and Greg
Biele of Jackson; his sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas
Furlong of Fairfax, Va., Christopher and Tina Furlong of
Chantilly, Va., and Timothy and Denise Furlong of
Howell; his brother and sister-in-law, James and Judith
Furlong of Jackson; his grandchildren, Austin of Benton
Harbor, Mich., Alex and Nicholas of Jackson, and Ryan
and Joey of Howell; and his four nephews and seven
grandnephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend
his visitation from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9 and
from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10 at the George S.
Hassler Funeral Home, 980 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson.
A funeral gathering will be offered at 8 a.m. Monday,
Jan. 11 at the funeral home. His Funeral Liturgy will
follow at 9:15 a.m. at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic
Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson. Interment with
military honors will follow in the Brig. Gen. William C.
Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road,
Arneytown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made in memory of Mr. Furlong to the Alzheimer's
Association , Central New Jersey Chapter, 400 Morris
Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834-1365, or to the St.
Aloysius School Science Department, 935 Bennetts Mills
