
						NIX, HENRY J., 82
						
						
Ocala 
						- Lt. Cmdr. Henry J. Nix, USN (Ret.) died on 
						December 31, 2009 in Ocala, FL. He was born in the 
						Bronx, New York, the only son of Henry and Olive Hartley 
						Nix. He graduated from Fordham Preparatory School.  
						
						
						After 
						graduation from the Naval Academy with the Class of 
						1950, he served during the Korean War on the
						
						USS Carmick 
						DMS 33 and the 
						
						USS Kearsarge CVA33.  After Submarine 
						School, he served on the
						
						USS Pickerel SS 524 and the 
						
						USS Jallao SS368. His shore assignments included Submarine 
						Squadrons 7 and 2, CINCPAC, Pearl Harbor and MSTS 
						Brooklyn. 
						
						In 1970 he retired from the Navy 
						and worked as an engineer for the Port Authority of New 
						York/New Jersey. Graduating from Seton Hall Law School 
						in 1983, he went into private practice in Piscataway, 
						New Jersey. After his third retirement he 
						moved to Ocala, FL in 2005. He enjoyed doing volunteer 
						work for the Boy Scouts, National Canoe Safety Patrol, 
						FISH, SHINE and Intergroup 17. 
						
						He is survived by his wife of 55 
						years, Margaret (Peggy) Timoney Nix, his children Robert 
						(Concord, MA), Theresa (Clyde Hill, WA), John 
						(Piscataway, NJ), James (Peekskill, NY), Kathleen (Fort 
						Collins, CO), Thomas, (Manhattan, NY), and 13 
						grandchildren. 
						
						A memorial service will be held at 
						Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on January 7, 2010 at 11 
						AM in Candler, FL. In the spring he will be inurned at 
						the 
						
						US Naval Academy Columbarium where he will join his 
						older son, David (USNA, 1978), who predeceased him. 
						
						In
