THE PORT AUTHORITY OF NEW YORK
AND NEW JERSEY
Office of the Executive
Director
September 14, 2009
We begin today facing yet
again the unimaginable. Bill DeCota is gone. The great
German philosopher Hegel started his proof of the
existence of God on the unreasonableness of death.
A
life well lived cannot simply end. Bill's love of life,
his passion, his caring sense of others, his humor and
knowing sarcasm, but most of all and most sadly his
being there for so many, for this agency, for the world
around him for so long and so well it is today almost
impossible to think of him gone.
Bill would probably say
I have said too much already. But I will say in closing
we have all lost someone who did it better than most and
for that he will be deeply and greatly missed.
