Subject: Port Authority Retirees Website "In Memoriam"
My father, George Ernest Currlin, died on March 19, 2009 in Fort
Lauderdale, FL. after battling a sudden respiratory illness. He
had a near-complete lifetime without illness. He was 80 years
old.
George was born in New York City and lived in Cuba as a youth
during the great depression. He served as a Sergeant in the Army
during the Korean War from 1951-1953. Thereafter, he served 6
years in the army reserves and was hired by the Port Authority
of NY and NJ in 1958. While at the Port Authority, he resumed
his nighttime studies at Columbia University for an engineering
degree. He retired as a computer operator and worked for the
Port Authority for over 28 years.
George entered retirement early in 1986 and thoroughly enjoyed
almost 23 years of it. He was happily married for almost 50
years and had the pleasure of knowing and participating in the
lives of his grandchildren and great grandchild. He split his
time between Florida and Ecuador with friends and family. He
enjoyed the beach and mountains but really loved picking
coconuts and mangos. Survivors include his wife (Norma), son and
daughter (George, Norma), seven grandchildren (Christina, Sharyn,
Anthony, Eric, Zachary, Marisa and Christopher) and great
grandchild (Adrianna).
