ALFRED CEASER JR.
AGE: 74 SOMERSET
Alfred Ceaser Jr., died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at
the Barbara Cheung Memorial Hospice Center, Edison. He
was 74 years old. Mr. Ceaser was born in New York City
and lived for many years in Queens. He relocated to the
Somerset area in 1972. He was a longtime member of
Somerset Presbyterian Church, Somerset.
Mr. Ceaser was a graduate
of Newton High School Class of 1953. Upon his
graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four
years active duty on the destroyer, USS New and
continued to serve four more years in the Naval
Reserves. He was a Cum Laude graduate of Adelphi
University with a Bachelors of Science in Communications
and Management. He was employed by the NY/NJ Port
Authority for close to 38 years. His career started with
the Port Authority as a laborer and through the years
held various positions. He retired in 1997 as the
Maintenance Unit Supervisor of the Staten Island Tunnels
and Bridges.
Mr. Ceaser served on the
Franklin Township Board of Education from 1975-1978 and
served as a Franklin Township Councilman from 1987-1993.
He was a past chairman of the Franklin Township Housing
Authority, a member of the Franklin Township Board of
Adjustments and the Franklin Township Zoning Board.
Mr. Ceaser is survived by
his wife of 46 years, Yvonne Denard Ceaser of Somerset;
and his children, Alfred Ceaser III and his wife Dawn of
Newark, Del., Eric Ceaser and his wife Sheila of Kenya,
and Marc Ceaser of Piscataway. He is also survived by a
brother, Reginald Ceaser and his wife Toni of Queens,
N.Y.; his grandchildren, Joshua, Elliot and Eliana,
along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Family and friends may
call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29 at the Gleason
Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset. A funeral
service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30 at
Somerset Presbyterian Church, Somerset. Interment will
follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial
Cemetery, Arneytown. Contributions in Mr. Ceaser's name
may be made to Somerset Presbyterian Church, 100 John F.
Kennedy Blvd., Somerset, NJ 08873.
