RAVENELL, Arthur
A. Ravenell Port Authority employee, Navy veteran, of
Plainfield, 78 Arthur A. Ravenell, 78, died Thursday,
July 24, 2008, at home.
The funeral is Tuesday at
10 a.m. in St. Johns Baptist Church, 2387 Morse Ave.,
Scotch Plains, preceded by viewing at 9 a.m. Interment
is in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial
Cemetery in Wrightstown. Arrangements are by Browns
Funeral Home in Plainfield. Born in Bayonne, Mr.
Ravenell lived in Plainfield for 48 years. He was a 1947
graduate of Ferris High School in Jersey City and a
graduate of Adelphi University in New York.
He was employed with the
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for 20 years,
retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. Johns Baptist
Church in Scotch Plains, where he served on the Senior
Usher Board and the Mens Fellowship Ministry. He was
also a member of the Policemens Benevolent Association
and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife,
of 57 years, Mildred Ravenell of Plainfield; one
daughter, Arlene Aldridge; two sons, Arthur W. Ravenell
Sr. (Dean) and Charles J. Ravenell, all of Plainfield;
four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one
sister, Selma Ann Ladson (Sam) of Woodbridge, and a
brother, Morris Ravenell of Newark.
In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to St. Johns Baptist Church
Scholarship Committee, 2387 Morse Ave., Scotch Plains,
N.J. 07076.
