Jersey City has lost one
of its hometown guys. Anthony Grazioso, 74, was found
dead in his Jersey City home on Wednesday.
Grazioso always
championed his city and its people. His last public
function was as the emcee of the Veterans Day ceremonies
at the Korean War Memorial at the foot of Washington
Street. Speaking to the crowd, he added extra adjectives
in praising the local veterans and introducing elected
officials. For him, they were all bigger than life.
After a stint as director
of community relations for the Port Authority of New
York and New Jersey, in 1982, he became director of
public affairs for the predecessor to NJ Transit.
While on the boards of too many civic, medical and
educational organizations to mention here, Grazioso also
founded the Christopher Columbus Foundation of Hudson
County.
The champion of the
community will be missed.
