In Memoriam

Jose R. Prieto, Graphics Designer
Friday, May 18, 2007

Jose R. Prieto, 70, was discovered Wednesday afternoon by his brother, who was let into his East 35th Street home by the building superintendent.

A retired graphics designer who worked on the World Trade Center was found dead in his East Side apartment.  Prieto worked 24 years as a designer, most recently at Kennedy Airport, before retiring in 1995.

His neighbors knew Prieto by his middle name, Raul.  Neighbors described Prieto as a sophisticated, debonair Cuban immigrant who loved opera and traveled frequently.  Quiet, very reserved, very much of a gentleman," said another neighbor, "He was a renaissance man."
