COGAN Walter J. Cogan Sr.
WWII combat veteran, Port Authority director, 86 Walter J. Cogan
Sr., 86, of Cedar Grove died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007. Funeral
services will be Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 9 a.m. from the Shooks
Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., (Rte 23) Cedar
Grove.
The Funeral Mass will be offered
at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena R.C. Church, Cedar Grove.
Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
Visiting hours are Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the
funeral home. Born in Glen Ridge, Mr. Cogan was a resident of
Cedar Grove since 1954.
He was a World War II combat
veteran and B-29 navigator with the U.S. Army Air Force. He
retired as a colonel after 27 years. He was a proud member of
the 73rd Bomb Wing Association for many years. He worked for 42
years with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey,
retiring in 1986 as director and manager of Port Newark and Port
Elizabeth.
He obtained a B.S. in science
from Rutgers University and received his M.B.A. from New York
University. He was a member and past president of the Cedar
Grove Planning Board for 15 years.
He was the beloved husband of 55
years to Elizabeth (nee Holly) Cogan; devoted father to Kevin
Cogan and his wife, Karen, and Jamie and Debbie Cogan; cherished
grandfather to Michele, Daniel, James Michael, Katie and
Nicholas; dear brother to Mary Daniels, William Bill Cogan, and
the late Thomas Cogan.
