						O'Connell Jr., Vietnam Vet, Port Authority engineer, 63

						A Mass for 
						William G. O'Connell Jr., 63, a lifelong resident of West 
						Orange, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Josephs 
						Church, West Orange. Arrangements are by the 
						Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston. 
						
						Mr. O'Connell, who died Sunday in Saint Barnabas Medical 
						Center, Livingston, was a chief engineer for the Port 
						Authority of New York and New Jersey at Journal Square 
						in Jersey City, where he worked for 33 years before 
						retiring in 2005. He was affiliated with the 
						International Union of Operating Engineers Local 68. 
						
						He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. 
						O'Connell was a former commander of the American Legion 
						Post 22 in West Orange, and a coach of the posts 
						baseball team. 
						
						Mr. O'Connell also belonged to the Junior Essex Troop. 
						Surviving are his wife, Catherine; a son, William III; a 
						daughter, Carrine Mackey; his mother, Ethel O'Connell; a 
						brother, Jeffrey; a sister, Mimi, and a grandchild.
